As the team was preparing to leave this morning, Dr. Manuel received a phone call that gave us an opportunity to reach out to a new community. We were directed to go to Guamote (wa-MO-tay) which is about 45 minutes north from Alausi on the Pan-American highway. When we arrived, we quickly set up the medical and vision clinic in their church and began assisting the needs of the people. We were pleased to meet Pastor Francisco and to be able serve the wonderful people of this community.
We met and assisted 51 people today and provided 54 glasses from our vision center. We also handed out a Spanish version of the book of John, which in Spanish is Juan. It was interesting to see how many people were excited to receive the books.
As the parents were waiting in line for the medical team, we offered to have their kids partake in a ”mini” sports camp. They were outside playing with scratch art crosses, parachutes and hacky-sacks and having a blast! Also, Pat Turner held a Women’s Bible Study with the ladies in the waiting area. She shared the foundation of faith and the importance of continuing to grow in your faith.
In the afternoon, we also had a great time with the children as we shared the word of God with them through our Vacation Bible School (VBS). The kids learned the gospel through our Gospel bracelets. They learned what each color stood for and shared it with other kids. They also enjoyed the Snapchat filters.
There was a lot going on in this little church!
